Human Resources Development
Our main areas of operation include: Consumer Marketing, Visitor Experiences, Partnership Marketing, and Corporate Services. We offer opportunities in many career areas: marketing, advertising, media relations, editing, customer service roles, administration, information systems, financial services and human resources.
Generally, the types of opportunities available within Tourism British Columbia are regular full-time positions, although part-time and casual employment is also available, as well as special project positions.
Many positions require membership in the British Columbia Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), which negotiates salaries and benefits on behalf of its members.
For positions within the BCGEU, salary levels are stated as a salary range on each individual job posting. It is expected that all new employees would start at the bottom of the range.
Employee benefits will vary according to the type of appointment made (regular, part-time, casual) and according to the BCGEU collective agreement for union members or Terms and Conditions of Employment for non-union employees.
Applicant Eligibility
You will see a variety of competition types listed on our Job Opportunities page:
Internal: These jobs are open only to eligible Tourism BC employees.
External: These jobs are open to both Tourism BC employees and the public.
Please note: Only those candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada) to be eligible to apply for competitions.
Tourism BC is committed to equity in employment, and encourages applications from all qualified individuals.
Selection Process
The selection process typically involves skill assessment, interactive interviews, and reference checking.
At Tourism BC, we use interview methods that focus on past performance as an indicator of future performance. Unlike traditional interviews that ask "what is your greatest strength/weakness", applicants are asked to relate how they have demonstrated the skills and abilities required for the position.
References from current and past employers are thoroughly reviewed to confirm the suitability of candidates for jobs in our work environment.
Finally, a six month probation period rounds out the recruitment process.
