Community Tourism Foundations® Update

The Community Tourism Foundations® program continues to assist BC communities in establishing effective tourism planning and implementation.

The 2007/2008 program intake included 18 communities that have worked with due diligence to develop tourism plans that speak to their unique destination. Many communities are nearly complete and the Community Tourism Foundations® program is looking forward to seeing these communities move into the implementation stage.

Through the program, communities are paired with experienced facilitators who assist in addressing numerous tourism development issues. These can include:
  • Creating or improving a local destination marketing organization that focuses on marketing the community as a travel destination.
  • Assisting tourism operators with product development.
  • Conducting visitor research.
  • Tracking local industry performance.
  • Measuring the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.
The Community Tourism Foundation® team is currently reviewing expressions of interest from communities across the province and looking forward to starting the fourth round of the program by late Spring 2008.

A quarterly newsletter is produced to highlight communities in the program, facilitator background and program updates. To receive the Community Tourism Foundations newsletter, please send your request to CommunityTourismFoundations@tourismbc.com.
